In a notable surge, China’s foreign trade activity has shown robust growth over the first eight months of the year, with total imports and exports of goods reaching a substantial 34.78 trillion yuan, equivalent to $5.18 trillion. This marks a significant 17.6% increase compared to the same period last year, highlighting the dynamism in the country’s trade sector.
The export segment saw a considerable rise, climbing 14.6% to reach 20.17 trillion yuan, while imports experienced an even more dramatic increase of 22%, totaling 14.61 trillion yuan. This period of growth indicates a strong demand for foreign goods and a competitive export market for Chinese products.
August’s figures further underscored this trend, with overall imports and exports of goods jumping 19.8% year-on-year, totaling 4.65 trillion yuan. Exports in this month alone surged by 18.6%, and imports saw an uptick of 21.7%, demonstrating a consistent upward trajectory in trade activities.
For four consecutive months, both exports and imports have maintained double-digit growth when compared to the previous year. Notably, import growth has outpaced export growth for the past six months, suggesting a strong domestic demand for international goods and services. This pattern reflects both the resilience and the adaptability of China’s trade sector amid global economic challenges.
