Taiwan and Belize have signed two pivotal agreements to bolster their enduring partnership, marking a significant step in diplomatic relations. This development emerged during Taiwanese Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung’s three-day diplomatic visit to Belize, where he engaged in discussions with Belizean Foreign Minister Francis Fonseca to enhance bilateral cooperation.
Central to these agreements is a letter of intent between the University of Belize and Taiwan’s International Cooperation and Development Fund, establishing the Taiwan-Caribbean Academy. This new institution will be focused on fostering technical and vocational education, sustainable tourism, and economic cooperation among Taiwan’s diplomatic partners in the Caribbean region. The academy will be headquartered at the University of Belize, with input from Taiwanese universities in curriculum development and faculty planning.
Additionally, both nations signed an agreement to enhance cooperation in the training of diplomatic staff. This initiative aims to strengthen the professional skills and capabilities of Belize’s foreign service, reflecting a mutual commitment to upskill and prepare diplomatic personnel for future challenges.
The agreements highlight a continued emphasis on educational and professional development, underlining the strategic importance of collaboration between Taiwan and Belize. These initiatives are expected to not only deepen the bilateral relationship but also enhance regional cooperation through shared educational and professional resources.
