Taiwanese weightlifter Chen Guan-ling delivered a standout performance at the World Weightlifting Championships in Ningbo, China, securing two silver medals and a bronze in the women’s 57kg category. This achievement marks an improvement over her previous showing at the 2024 World Weightlifting Championships, where she earned one silver and two bronze medals.
Chen, 21, excelled in the clean and jerk event, successfully lifting 117kg, 119kg, and an impressive 125kg. Her 125kg lift earned her a silver medal in this discipline. Furthermore, her combined total lift of 215kg secured her another silver medal overall. In the snatch category, she claimed a bronze medal, further adding to her accolades at the event.
Earlier this year, Chen also earned a bronze medal in the women’s 57kg category at the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan. Her consistent performances have made her a notable competitor on the international weightlifting stage.
The World Weightlifting Championships, which run until November 8, are significant as they contribute qualification points towards the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. However, it is important to note that the women’s 57kg category, in which Chen excels, is not included in the Olympic weightlifting programme, which features six different weight classes.
