Russia has extended a significant offer to support India’s indigenous fifth-generation fighter jet program, AMCA. Ambassador Denis Alipov announced that Moscow is ready to move toward “local production of the Su-57 fifth-generation fighter, supporting India’s AMCA program.”
This proposal signifies a new level of technology sharing, moving beyond the joint production of existing assets like Su-30 MKI jets and T-90 tanks. It aims to integrate Russia’s advanced stealth fighter technology with India’s own ambitious aerospace goals.
The announcement was part of a broader reassurance of the defense partnership, which Alipov called the “backbone” of India’s military. He confirmed that 70% of India’s equipment is of Russian origin and has been proven effective in operations.
Discussions are also advancing on other “force multipliers,” including drones, sophisticated anti-drone systems, and advanced radar technologies, positioning Russia as a key partner for India’s future military modernization.
This major defense overture was made against the backdrop of US-India friction. Donald Trump claimed India would stop buying Russian oil, a claim India’s MEA refuted by citing “national interest.” Russia’s offer reinforces its value as an all-weather partner.
